The Solid
Rock Community Baptist Church was organized in November 1992, when
several members of “A Home Bible Study,” which gathered in the home
of Reverend and Mrs. Shaird, were told of his “Calling” to begin a
new ministry in the Springfield area. After much Prayer, a committee
of seven was formed for the purpose of organizing this band of
Baptized Believers into “A New Testament Church” whose goal was to
teach the way to Salvation, and to be ambassadors for Christ.
In December 1992, we began to diligently search for a place in
which to Worship. Within a very short time, the Holy Spirit led us
to the Pastor and Officers of the Liberty United Methodist Church.
Praise The Lord, they welcomed us with open arms and we began
preparing for our first Worship Service.
At 11:30 a.m. on
February 7, 1993, we held our First Worship Service and later that
afternoon, we celebrated the Ordination and Installation of Reverend
Curtis L. Shaird as our Pastor. On that first Sunday, 27 joined our
fellowship, and we experienced rapid growth. Pastor Shaird believed
that God sends you who and what you need. Since we were committed to
tithing rather than fundraising, God blessed us with a van in the
first year to bring to Church those who did not have transportation.
additionally, we paid off our piano within the first thirty days.
Our Bible Study rapidly grew and soon became the largest in
the City with averages of between 100 - 120 people. We still average
about 70 every week. Over the years, we have been faithfully served
by an Acapella Choir, Youth Choir and the Male Ensemble. In
September 1995 a call went out summoning those who were interested
in forming a new choir. That first night over 65 people came to lift
up the name of Jesus through song. Thus was born The Solid Rock Mass
Choir.
In September 2003, Pastor Shaird retired as Magistrate of
the Western Division Housing Court to serve full-time as Pastor. In
October 2004, Pastor Shaird was elevated and consecrated to the
office of Vice Bishop of the CCCA.
Some of our current
ministries include: tutoring, youth sewing, youth, young adult, men
and women, armor-bearer, missionary, and culinary ministries to name
a few. Through God's Grace, we will have recently purchased our
present location. We are a Blessed people, and we ask for your
continued fervent prayers as we endeavor to be faithful to achieve
what God has appointed for us to do.
